Facilitator: Kevin
Notes: Indy
Present: Kevin, Mel, Christopher, Nonna, Shahni, Anna, Indy, Shadow
Mel suggests a new meeting introduction model, where we share our name, pronouns, why we are here and our relationship to country. Kevin (he/him) is inspired by the space’s history and focused on giving it stability so we can do the things we want and have to do. Indy (she/her) is here because she believes in the project. Anna is here to attend the meeting. Shahni (she/her) is local and believes in the project and let’s get the meeting going! Cal (they/them) wants to wrap their head around their involvement in the space. Their relationship with the land is one of healing, love and inspiration. Christopher (he/him) is here to learn. Melanie (she/her, bordering on non-binary) is feeling tired, upset about Deebing. Passionate about the space is, especially with the current housing crisis and rising cost of living. Mel wants to get through the shit (admin, bureaucracy) so we can become a more creative space.
Acknowledgement of Country
- Meeting on Jaggera Country, who lived in this area with complex systems of mutual aid for millennia. We acknowledge this is their land, not the land of Brisbane City Council.
Action points from last meeting
- Anna contacted Liz? – They’re in touch
- Kevin talk to Lauren about providing a letter of resignation as Treasurer
- ACTION POINT: Indy to post about 2 months deadline for the logo design pitch
- ACTION POINT: Indy to upload photos for soil testing procedure
- ACTION POINT: Kevin to contact BCC about food licence?
Communify MOU
- Latest meeting with Communify today (4/05) went well. They accepted our revisions.
- They need to know about our activities in some cases, and in others we need permission for activities. We need clarification about this distinction (what is courtesy and what is permission). We don’t need to inform them of our current activities (shopping, restocking, gardening, free shop activities, laundry). There are 3 categories: providing no notice (eg sorting free shop donations), notifying them (eg garden working bees) and asking permission (eg a fete, a regular public booking).
- ACTION POINT: Indy to catch Cal up on the MOU
Insurance
- Communify has said they will hold us to the finger food directive until we get our insurance certificate, and until we finalise the MOU. Indy says this is unjustified and shifting the goal posts, and we should push back against these conditions.
- Relationship instead (membership?)
Membership and Volunteer register
- We need to figure out how to keep track of volunteers and members, and whether we want a distinction between members/volunteers. This involves researching legal requirements and contacting everyone to ask how/if they want to be recorded as a member/volunteer.
- ACTION POINT: Shahni to look into the legal requirements of membership to an incorporation.
- ACTION POINT: Mel to start putting together the volunteer register
Finance
- Account balance is $3330 – we have just spent $1000 on insurance. Finance ledger is on the wiki.
- We need more people to be signatories in order to open a bank account. Suggested 3 bank cards, which costs $8/month.
- Shahni is the new Treasurer.
Garden
- The poisoned side is still being left untouched
- Cedryk has suggested the Garden WG meet with Communify to discuss the dynamic with the neighbour
Other Business
- GM day: big conversation about having the GM during the day or on an afternoon, as opposed to the evenings. Trial the next GM for Sunday afternoon – 2pm, June 4th.
- (Cal) Idea for Friday Social Evenings – outside, hot drinks, no food, but people can BYO to share. 5pm – 9pm. Cal will be setting this up with some others as a new group (GLAM/GAM)
- (Mel) Volunteers Social Evening – we cater it, book the hall from Communify, spend time together and share our ideas.
- ACTION POINT: Mel to contact Communify and find a date for the volunteers party in the hall
- Plumbers are delayed
